The "Roma Pass" is a card that offers you transport and two museums free of charge as well as reductions for all other museums and major events in Rome. This is a terrific way to save money and time during your travels to Rome.
The card is validated at the time of the first visit site/museum and must then be used during the first three days following activation. The ”Roma Pass” is available in all museums and the Tourist Information Points. You can also purchase the Pass online. Cost is around 25 Euros.
The Rome Pass covers the museums and archaeological sites found in the territory of the City of Rome and includes public transportation within Rome’s railway ring (Zone A). Holders of the Pass can use the public transportation system within the City of Rome for 3 days. This allows for travel on urban busses, trams and trains, on underground lines metro A and B within the urban territory of the City of Rome, and metropolitan trains.
Trenitalia trains and Cotral buses are not included.
Validity Limit of the Roma Pass.
Under the RFID system (Radio Frequency Identification) the card isn’t “validated” so much as simply passed above the yellow circled sensor of the machines themselves (on buses and metro turnstiles). The green light indicates that the use has been correctly registered.
For the full list of museums and archaeological sites included in the Rome Pass, consult the website’s museum section. There is a drop-down list of archeological, scientific, modern, and contemporary spots where your card will entitle you to special rates and discounts. Check out the events section as well, where your card will give you access to local art, theater, cinema, dance, festivals, music, and other events.
Some places even have a special entrance for Roma Pass holders. A the Colosseum for example, the Roma Pass holders line is far shorter than the regular ticket line and can save you an hour or more in the peak season when lines are super long.
